Family Health Center’s annual Back To School Bash is back, helping local kids get ready for school in a fun way while making sure their immunizations are up to date.
The Back To School Bash is set for Friday, Aug. 11, noon to 6 p.m., at Family Health Center’s Paterson campus, 117 W. Paterson St.
Denise Crawford, President and CEO of Family Health Center (FHC), said the Bash focuses on helping young people start the school year healthy—a need that’s top of mind for families following the global pandemic. As part of the Back To School Bash, FHC offers well-child services, including immunization. Students that aren’t up to date on their immunizations may be kept out of the classroom, which can put them behind academically.
“The Bash offers a fun wrap-up to summer break while making sure families know their kids are healthy, immunized and ready to return to school,” Crawford said.
The Back To School Bash features games, attractions, refreshments, free backpacks with school supplies and self-care kits. Also available are information booths on health awareness and community support services. The Bash typically draws around 1,500 children, many from under-resourced families. FHC makes sure kids receive well-child services including immunizations. This ensures that those students start school healthy, ready to learn and able to stay in school, Crawford said.
Completed well-child checks for children ages 3-12 and up-to-date immunizations are required for all children who attend the Bash. Well-child checks can be completed before the Bash or on the day of the event. Families can pre-register their children ahead of time by calling (269) 448-0805. Children will first receive their Well-Child Exams and then are able to enjoy the Bash.
COVID-19 vaccination isn’t required for students to return to school. However, FHC is offering a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Bash for all eligible individuals of any age who are interested in participation.
